Robert W. (R.W.) Julian began doing numismatic research during the late
1950s while in college.
His first published article appeared in the
Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine in 1960. He specializes in 18th and 19th
century U.S. numismatic history and has visited the National Archives on
eight occasions to read original documents. He has also done research in
several museums, including the Smithsonian, the American Numismatic
Society, the British Museum, and the Hermitage.
His more than 600 published research articles led to the 1998 election to the ANA Hall of Fame. He is
the author of several books, including Medals of the U.S. Mint, 1792-1892.
